APCS of oil extraction

The automatized management system of technological processes of oil extraction on the basis of the advanced energy-saving technologies “Gaslift”.

About the project

Management system for oil extraction equipment that uses the “Gaslift” method based on the DCS “Tornado-S”. The first system of that kind was installed on the “Tarasovskoye” oil wells in 1997.

At the present time, several modifications of the system were implemented. All the projects are implemented by specialists of CJSC “Tornado Modular Systems” together with Novosibirsk Plant of Artificial Fiber.

System functions

The system performs the following monitoring and control functions of oil extraction process:

1. The monitoring of the clustered controllers operation.

The system administrator sets the general configuration of the clusters and specific clustered controllers in accordance with the actual condition and placement of the equipment. The operator can affect the technological process both directly by manipulating the cluster equipment (opening or closing of valves, etc.), and indirectly. In this case the commands related only to the automation system (for example, change of the controller operation mode) or to initialization or modification of the control parameters are used.

2. Data collection and centralization.

All the data collected with using the technological equipment is polled from clustered controllers in real time.

3. Displaying the received data.

All data are provided to the operator as soon as available. The data is displayed in the form of symbolic circuits, graphs, tables, different graphic symbols, texts, etc.

4. Data preparation and transmission to the database server.

All the information collected from the clustered controllers, the information about all actions of the operator and automatic actions of the system are immediately transmitted to the database server.

The level of the technological controllers

Purpose of the “SMART” controllers’ level manufactured by “Kontron” company (“PEP Modular Computers”) is implementation of the ADCS “Gaslift” algorithms. A set of programs for work with both the actual devices of oil extraction (gazmanifold, etc.), and with additional inhibitor block devices are part of the lower level.

The ISaGRAF system manufactured by “AlterSys” company is used as the programming environment of controllers. The controllers that manage the oil wells are connected in PROFIBUS LAN.

The visualization and database level

Purpose of the upper level is interaction with an operator, display of the operational situation on the facilities (clusters and individual wells), generation of reports, interaction with the database server. The software was developed using InTouch SCADA-system manufactured by “Wonderware” company.

The main functions of the database are:

  • accumulation and storage of all the monitoring and control data that reflect the functioning of specific settings and characterize the technological process at the cluster as a whole;
  • implementation of standard processing of the accumulated data: search and processing of events, calculation of average measurements and determination of the main equipment operation time;
  • implementation of hourly, daily and 24-hour processing;
  • presentation of the change over time of the accumulated data.
