APCS of water cleaning devices for boiler heating surfaces.  Customer: Yimin CHPP (People's Republic of China)

The APCS is implemented on the basis of DCS1 “Tornado-I” and designed for monitoring and control of water cleaning devices of boiler heating surfaces of the TPP power-generating unit.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

imin1.jpgThe project was implemented by CJSC “Tornado Modular Systems”, CJSC “SibCOTES”, OJSC “Ziomar engineering company” and JSC "Technopromexport" companies in autumn of 2000.

As part of the project, the specialists of CJSC “Tornado Modular Systems” and CJSC "SibCOTES" performed all the work on creation and integration of the control systems:

  • fulfilment of the project, creating the operational documentation and custom equipment specifications;
  • assembly, manufacture of the equipment;
  • bench test and preparation for shipment;
  • shipment of the equipment to the TPP;
  • installation of the equipment;
  • adjustment of the boiler blasting system;
  • integrated tests and commissioning.

The assembled system was shipped to the facility three months after the start of development. Assembling & commissioning of the system was carried out with the direct participation of the Customer’s representatives, which allowed accelerating the training process of the operational staff of the station.

THE FUNCTION OF THE SYSTEM

The system is designed for monitoring and control of water cleaning devices of boiler heating surfaces during the operation of the power-generating unit. The system is also designed to automatically detect emergency situations in the process of the boiler cleaning and take measures to prevent hardware damages of the control system and the main equipment of the boiler connected with the cleaning process.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE SYSTEM

Functionally, the system is divided into two identical and practically independent subsystems (A and B controllers), arranged in a single cabinet. This arrangement of the control system allows to increase the operational reliability of the cleaning system as a whole, as well as to halve the total duration of cleaning cycle of the boiler.

The system consists of the following main components:

  • process controllers with a set of the remote terminal units and field interface units;
  • control desks;
  • communication units.

Process controllers

The process controllers of IUC Series manufactured by “Kontron” company (“PEP Modular Computers”) are the main element of the system.

Each controller provides:

  • processing signals from the sensors located on the devices of their group;
  • processing commands issued by the operator using the control desk;
  • alternate control of each of the devices of the group (according to a defined configuration) using the corresponding commands;

displaying information about current state of the cleaning process at the indication display of the control desk for the operator;

  • detection of emergency condition and issuing commands to prevent breakages of the cleaning devices and the main equipment of the boiler connected with the cleaning process;

  • processing signals from the second controller during the synchronous (dual-controller) operation mode.

Switching units

The switching units are an intermediate, switching elements between the process controllers and devices for cleaning processes.

Control desks

imin4.jpgControl panels provide a human-machine interface for the control system.

The control panels allow to set operational modes of the system, change configuration, as well as display the current state of devices, diagnostics results, alarm messages, etc..

The panels have the input mechanisms (buttons and a digital patch board) and indicators (two-line text indicator board and LEDs).

HARDWARE

Cabinet of controllers

The controllers are located in a two-door cabinet of unilateral service that provides an IP 55 hardware protection level. The controllers with remote terminal units and field interface units, secondary power supply sources, as well as the necessary switching and electrical equipment is located inside the cabinet. Connection of cables is carried out directly, bypassing industrial terminal blocks. The control panels of the controllers and alarm signal lights are placed on the cabinet doors.

Process controllers

imin2.jpgThe process controllers are designed identically in the form of CXC crate of 3U format and have a modular architecture. All the controller modules are installed in the crate and combined using CXC-bus line. The main control element of the controller is an IUC-32 CPU module. IMOD-2 module-carriers with functional submodules of MODPASK series are used as remote terminal units.

Field interface units

The field interface units provide connection of field cables to the controllers without intermediate converters, alighners, etc. The “Wago” spring-loaded terminals that provide reliable and insensitive to vibrations contact are used to connect the cables to the field interface units. There are also LED indicators of state of the input and command channels of the controller located on the field interface units.

Switching units

The switching units are made using the setup boxes manufactured by the “Rittal” company. Inside each box there are the following components:

  • contactors for switching of supply voltages to the electric motor cleaning devices;
  • terminals of a “Wago” type for connection of the cables;
  • diode matrix switches for successive connection of the device sensors to the controllers;
  • condensers for decreasing of the DC offsets on the field cables.

Using matrix switch-boards in the system can abruptly reduce the number of input remote terminal units and thereby greatly facilitate the control system and reduce its price .
